Message to the Community
Dion Betts, Ed.D., Superintendent
It is my pleasure to serve the students, staff, and community as we work “to enable all students to succeed in a changing world.”
Our overarching goals are based on the District Strategic Plan. The BASD Strategic Plan was developed during the 2006 school year and officially adopted by the Board of School Directors on September 29, 2006. This plan includes major goals for the years 2006-2012.
While many of these goals are based on statewide assessment data (Pennsylvania System of Statewide Assessment – PSSA), we want to graduate the most knowledgeable students in all subjects (even for those areas not tested by the state). Summarized below are the District goals:
- All students will be proficient in math, reading, writing, and science as measured by the annual state-wide PSSA assessments by 2012, increasing incrementally year after year. All students will read on grade level by the end of third grade as measured by guided reading levels and other assessments.
- Systematic interventions will be used. The achievement of all students will be documented, analyzed and monitored in order to address individual needs with research-based, academic interventions.
These are certainly massive goals, however, worthwhile of our efforts.
High Performing Schools Practices
The District continues to use the best practices of high-performing school systems. These practices have resulted in great increases in achievement over the last several years. These include:
- Base Decisions on Monitoring: Compilation, Analysis and Use of the Data
- Effective Instructional Programs, Practices and Arrangements
- Academic and Curricular Goals
- Recognition, Intervention and Adjustment
- Staff Selection, Leadership and Professional Development

Finance Committee Meetings
School finance is a complex subject. As such, the district administration put together a series of Finance Committee meetings designed to inform the public about school district programs and their relationship to budgeting, and ultimately to taxation.
All of the meetings listed below will be held at the Education Center, 911 Montgomery Avenue, Boyertown, PA, and all will start at 6:30 p.m.
